Classmates

Please sign up. This section is fun for all. You can search for a particular classmate and sort by Date of Signup to see new additions or Latest Edit to see revisions to earlier postings.

Due to privacy concerns, we have elected not to provide a link to a file of classmate contact information as we did after our 40th reunion. But one of the cool features of this website is the ability to connect with fellow classmates—assuming the necessary information is posted and kept up-to-date.

How to be found. To opt in to be found by classmates, you need to post or update a profile in the Classmates section, including name, current city, state, and email. It isn't necessary to answer any other question, like street address, occupation, marital status, hobbies, or children or to include comments—though your fellow classmates will be interested in this information. Your email address will be "blinded," and classmates can use the Send a Message link within each profile without learning your email address. They can also use the Where Are They Now feature to see a geographic distribution of class members.

If you've provided a profile in the past, sign in to your profile to see if we have an up-to-date email address and physical location for you. There is a username and password recovery feature if you've forgotten your log in information.

How to find classmates. Using the Send a Message feature is the best way to find Class of 1967 members. For those classmates who haven't posted a profile, you may use the Contact Us form to request that we pass along your inquiry. However, you will not receive a response if the email address we have is outdated.

Even if you do not choose to post a profile on the website, the database that class reunion planners maintain must have a current email address in order to inform you of possible future events. If you change your email address, use the Contact Us link to let us know.

Veronnie (Ronnie) Hittson (Hilles)

Marital status: Married
Children: 3
Occupation: Financial consultant/Volunteer
Comment: Right after college graduation, Jack and I were married.  Our first date was the 9th grade dance in the NPHS gym!  While he got his Wharton MBA, I taught junior high math and science at Drexel Hill Junior High for two years (there are interesting stories to go with that experience).  Then when we moved to NYC, I seized the opportunity to switch to business and entered corporate lending at Irving Trust Company.  While progressing to Assistant VP, I earned my MBA in Finance at NYU. (I knew that math major from Bucknell would come in handy!)  I then shifted to the corporate side and served as Assistant Treasurer for Harcourt Brace Jovanovich.

In the 1980s with three children, I switched to volunteering and charity fundraising while doing financial consulting part time.  The flexibility of my schedule allowed me to be involved with my kids and care for my dad at home.  Jack's job opportunities moved us from Westport, CT to Charlotte, NC to Radnor, PA....back near my beginning. (We turned down Africa and Hong Kong!)  We admit to building three new kitchens plus additions, and we hope this is our last!

Perhaps being "sporty" parents, it was inevitable that we would spend much of our vacation time and weekends at sports fields.  Admittedly, I am a "soccer mom" and have traveled the country with our kid's club teams.  My oldest two, David and Lauren, graduated from their father's alma mater and now live in New York City.  Matt will be a junior at my alma mater where he plays Varstiy Soccer.

As Jack and I see it, we only have 4 more semesters to pay.......then we can start planning our retirement!
Grandchildren: none
Hobbies: Photography, gardening, genealogy, soccer spectator, travel and skiing
What are your plans for retirement?: Good question............

Lois Holmes (Snyder)

Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: Occupational Therapist
Comment: How to give a synopsis of 40 yrs. ? Ah, just tell the good stuff, of course. Married shortly after graduation from NPHS in Oct. '68 to Rick who was in Viet Nam when we graduated. We had two children in the mid 70's. Children's and mom's playgroups (mostly playing alot of tennis), Scouts, camping, sailing, extracurricular activities (for Dan and Karen) family vacations, and domestic tasks were 'the stuff of life'. I had part-time jobs--mostly in physicians offices. As the years passed, I felt that what I really wanted to do was to help patients/clients personally. In 1987 I enrolled in Harcum College, graduated in 1991 and had my new career in occupational therapy. Working with people from the age of 6 to 96 having disabilities; physical, mental and/or developmental has been challenging and rewarding. I have also realized that so many people have much larger troubles than I have.
Grandchildren: 3
Hobbies: Gardening-indoors and out

Reading-novels and biographies

Fishing

Hiking in woods

Sailing

Being/napping on a beach
What are your plans for retirement?: We hope to be semi-retired within a year--work a couple of days a week.

Our plan, by 2010, is to move to a somewhat warmer climate, be close to a beach, and to work only if it's an irresistible job.

Carrell Horvath (Santa Maria)

Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: Teacher
Comment: Remember Mr. Jackson's 'Quotes of the Day? My favorite then was 'Life is the art of drawing without an eraser!' Over the past forty years, there have been times I could have used a HUGE eraser!! Married since 1971, I've lived the life of a naval aviator's wife--long deployments, travel opportunities, and fantastic reunions--while raising two great kids. I visit the Wallingford area occassionally as my brother lives in the same neighborhood as Chalky Wright. I've enjoyed catching up with everyone's activities--my special thanks to the reunion committee!
Grandchildren: 3
Hobbies: Investigating historical sites, travel, camping, and hiking.
What are your plans for retirement?: Way too busy to retire, but when I do, time in Scandanvia and New Zealand will top the list.

Betsy J+Stewart (Bellas)

Marital status: Married
Children: 7
Occupation: Retired
Comment: Leaving the business world was a challenge for me, but I've realized how burned out I had become. My husband, although older than me, retired after I sold my business and we've been able to enjoy the benefits of living in a beautiful lake community. My last daughter got married this spring and inherited two adorable kids, bringing our grandchildren to 15. I have picked up writing and have expanded into book editing, both of which were major fruits of having a research business. I'm also learning bridge (aargh!), resisting learning golf, and doing research project work on social justice issues. I'm excited to come back to the Philly area and see everyone!
Grandchildren: 15

Susan Karatjas (Levinstein)

Marital status: Married
Children: 2
Occupation: self-employed miniature artisan
Comment: I met my husband Nick at The George Washington University where we both went to college.  We have been married for 34 years.  We married a year after we graduated  from college and moved to Stony Book , NY and Madison, WI  until he finished his Ph.D.  We ended up in first in Syracuse, NY where I went back to school for my library degree and then Indiana, PA where we now live.  We have 2 children--A son who just received his Ph. D. in Organic Chemistry and a daughter who is a restaurant manager and just got married.
Grandchildren: none
Hobbies: My hobbies include gardening, reading and dollhouse miniatures. My hobby has now turned into my career. After 32 years working in libraries in various positions (the last 26 as a librarian at a public library), I retired from the library in 2006. I had started my own business selling dollhouse miniatures in 1997 and did both for 9 years. Once I retired from the library my business became my fulltime work. I love being able to make a living from what I love doing.
What are your plans for retirement?: Since I already retired from being a librarian, I plan to continue working at my business for as long as I can.

Comment:

My life since 1967 has had many ups and downs, but I have no regrets. After graduation from NPHS in 1967, I began my college days at PMC in Chester (as a civilian) living at home in Wallingford – basically it was “Grade 13”.  I could handle only one year of that and decided to transfer to HappyValley (PennsylvaniaStateUniversity, State College) for my final three years. I started out majoring in Business Administration.  When the Selective Service System decided to create the “lottery” I became quite concerned about going to Viet Nam – therefore I changed my major to Education so that I wouldn’t be drafted from college.  I graduated (somehow) with a BS in Secondary Mathematics Education. Mr. Smith would have been proud of me.  Incidentally, several years later I ended up teaching with his wife in the Delaware County Man Power Program. My first teaching job was at ChesterHigh School, what an eye opening experience.  One year of that was plenty. Well, I better speed this up or it’ll take until the next reunion read it all.  I continued my teaching in Lancaster, PA then went to work for the Armstrong Cork Company as an Industry Products Marketing Representative.  Several years and teaching careers later, I went back to MayrwoodUniversity for my Masters of Education, and then decided to leave teaching “forever”.

Since wood working was always a hobby of mine (Mr. Wilkinson also would have been proud) I became a glorified/educated handyman.  Over the next few years, I taught myself every trade and became a kitchen & bath remodeling specialist and later, a general contractor and interior designer for the next twenty six years. Even though I was a general contractor I still continued to do much of the physical work which took its toll on two of my disc levels in my lower back.  I left the contracting business and took an interim position at HarcumCollege as Program Director of the Business and Professional Studies Department teaching Interior Design and various internet courses.  I missed the kitchen & bath business, so back to pounding nails once again.  About a year ago, I started a vacation home inspection service called "ShoreEyes" (www.shoreeyes.com) where we inspect vacation homes for the homeowners in the off season.  I later expanded into some speculative Real Estate Investments in the Poconos and will be building homes in DelawareCounty (Wallingford, South Media and Upland).  As a result of ignoring my back issues, I finally gave in to the pain and two surgeries since March of this year – I’m still recovering and finally doing much better.  I was concerned that my recovery time would keep me from attending this reunion, but I’ll be there.

After my divorce (2nd time) I stayed in close contact with my step-daughter, Tara (36) who is now married and has given me two wonderful grandsons, Alec (8) and Michael (almost 6).  They are such a joy and great addition to my life.

My girlfriend & I enjoy traveling.  Last year we won a trip to Paris, but we were so pressed for time that we went there for a long weekend.  What a whirlwind vacation. We especially like traveling to Cancun where we’ve gone about 18 times.  I’d like to say that Senior Ferrell would be proud, but I still can’t speak very much Spanish, except “Una mas tequila por favor”

I’d like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the Reunion Committee for putting together such a great event, especially the “virtual reunion” which convinced me to attend.  Muchas Gracias!

Grandchildren: 2
Hobbies: My hobbies and business endeavors have become one in the same. I enjoy carpentry and interior design as well as computers and travel.
What are your plans for retirement?: I'm not sure, but I think that I am semi-retired, but that changes each time I come up with a new venture.
